About the position

Lawrence School is seeking a dedicated and inspiring High School Teacher for Learning Strategies to educate students in essential academic, personal, and social skills necessary for success in the 21st century. This role involves teaching a course that focuses on study skills, communication, time management, and critical thinking, while fostering a supportive and structured learning environment.

Responsibilities

  • Fulfill a full-time teaching schedule that may include Learning Strategies and humanities courses.
  • Conduct targeted intervention sections for students needing additional literacy support.
  • Perform typical teacher duties such as lunch, activity, and dismissal supervision.
  • Ensure the academic needs of every student are met by maintaining a structured learning environment.
  • Utilize diverse teaching strategies and an individualized instructional approach.
  • Integrate educational and assistive technology tools into the classroom experience.
  • Circulate within the classroom to connect with students and effectively implement curricula.
  • Provide excellent customer service and communication to parents, including participation in bi-annual parent-teacher conferences.
  • Respond to parent contacts within 24 hours and meet/exceed communication requirements.
  • Engage in campus life by coaching or advising an after-school club, sport, or extracurricular activity.
  • Participate in on-site training and professional development opportunities.
  • Enter assignments and grades into the school's database, ensuring information is current and accessible.
  • Complete assigned paperwork and reports thoroughly and promptly, including IEP progress reports and grade reports.
  • Collaborate with campus leadership on issues related to students, parents, or school operations.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in education with appropriate teacher certification (Intervention Specialist or Adolescent/Young Adult 7-12) required.
  • Experience in ELA and humanities education.
  • Previous experience as a classroom teacher or career counselor preferred.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to celebrate diverse learning experiences.
  • Eagerness to learn and implement Lawrence School's teaching methodology.
  • Ability to set and maintain classroom expectations consistently.
  • Willingness to partner with parents and school leadership.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with students who have learning differences such as dyslexia, dysgraphia, dyscalculia, and ADHD.
  • Familiarity with assistive technology in education.
