About the position

The High School Assistant Wrestling Coach at Morton High School is responsible for supporting the athletic director and building principal in planning, coordinating, and directing wrestling activities. The role emphasizes participation and sportsmanship over competition, aiming to foster physical development, leadership, and good citizenship among students.

Responsibilities

  • Be responsible to the building principal and the school Director of Physical Education and Athletics.
  • Establish objectives for the program and develop a plan for the implementation of these objectives.
  • Develop the athletic program to prioritize participation and friendly competition.
  • Recognize athletic activities as integral to a balanced educational program and coordinate with the normal school program.
  • Provide vigorous activities to develop physical fitness and skills.
  • Develop principles of leadership and good citizenship through sportsmanship.
  • Foster self-expression, self-confidence, and self-discipline in students.
  • Know the rules, regulations, and policies set forth by relevant authorities.
  • Prepare an athletic budget, select and hire officials, requisition equipment, and provide team transportation.
  • Follow procedures for caring for injured athletes and ensure required physical examinations are completed.
  • Check player eligibility and maintain eligibility lists in coordination with the Director of Athletics.
  • Develop public relations with parents and media personnel.
  • Attend staff meetings and professional growth activities as approved by the principal.
  • Cooperate with other athletic staff to establish rules for conduct and appearance.

Requirements

  • Expert knowledge of the sport being taught.
  • Thorough understanding of participants physically, mentally, and emotionally.
  • Skill in teaching the fundamentals of the sport.
  • Desirable character and personality traits.
  • High moral standards.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with pupils, parents, and staff.
  • Thorough knowledge of rules and regulations pertaining to the sport.
  • Availability to supervise activities beyond the school day.
