About the position

The High School Assistant Softball Coach at Morton High School is responsible for assisting the athletic director and building principal in planning, coordinating, and directing the softball program. The role emphasizes participation and sportsmanship over win-loss records, aiming to foster physical development, leadership, and good citizenship among student-athletes.

Responsibilities

• Be responsible to the building principal and the school Director of Physical Education and Athletics.
• Establish objectives for the program and develop a plan for the implementation of these objectives.
• Develop the athletic program to promote participation and friendly competition.
• Recognize athletic activities as integral to a balanced educational program and coordinate with the normal school program.
• Provide vigorous activities to develop physical fitness and skills.
• Develop principles of leadership and good citizenship through sportsmanship.
• Foster self-expression, self-confidence, and self-discipline in students.
• Know the rules, regulations, and policies set forth by relevant authorities.
• Assist in preparing an athletic budget, selecting officials, requisitioning equipment, and providing team transportation.
• Follow procedures for caring for injured athletes as outlined in the handbook.
• Ensure all participants have the required physical examination and signed certificates on file.
• Check player eligibility and maintain eligibility lists in collaboration with the Director of Athletics.
• Develop plans for issuing and receiving play equipment, ensuring proper condition and disposition of equipment.
• Build sound public relations with parents and media personnel.
• Attend departmental staff meetings and professional growth activities as approved by the principal.
• Cooperate with other athletic staff to establish rules for conduct and appearance.

• Skill in teaching the fundamentals of the sport.

• High moral standards.
• Ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with pupils, parents, custodians, officials, staff members, and administration.
• Thorough knowledge of rules and regulations pertaining to the instructor's responsibilities.
• Availability to supervise activities beyond the school day.
