About The Position

Under the general direction of the principal, assist in providing leadership and supervision in administering the school’s educational program in order to promote the educational development and achievement of students in accordance with Board of Education policies, administrative procedures, rules, regulations, and applicable law. Provide leadership in program development and improvement, as well as in professional staff development.

Requirements

  • Master’s degree in education administration or related field
  • Valid Iowa Administrator License with PK-12 Principal / PK-12 Special Education Supervisor and Evaluator endorsements
  • Minimum of four years successful teaching experience
  • Satisfactory adherence to the Iowa Standards for School Leaders
  • Knowledge of secondary school curriculum and concepts
  • Knowledge and skill in effective supervision and evaluation techniques
  • Knowledge of applicable federal and state laws regarding education
  • Ability to handle adversity in a constructive manner
  • Ability to grasp and adjust to new and changing situations
  • Ability to successfully relate with students, parents and staff
  • Ability to engage in self-evaluation with regard to leadership, performance and professional growth
  • Proficient in use of technology, programs and applications
  • Excellent interpersonal and collaborative decision-making skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Competency working in a culturally diverse environment
  • Demonstrates initiative and ability to work without close supervision

Responsibilities

  • Promotes a safe school environment conducive to individualized instruction, cooperative curriculum development and student learning
  • Manages student discipline matters and supervises maintenance of student discipline files and records
  • Assists with screening, interviewing and selection of instructional and support staff
  • Supervises and evaluates instructional and support staff in accordance with district’s evaluation plan
  • Participates in multi-disciplinary teams and student-related meetings to problem solve students’ needs
  • Provides administrative leadership as an advisor to, or a facilitator for, assigned curricular areas
  • Serves as a contributing member of the administrative team and other committees as assigned
  • Assists in ensuring district policies and procedures, and collective bargaining agreements are implemented and followed
  • Assists with maintaining building security
  • Reports to the principal on all matters of a critical nature
  • Assists with safety inspections and supervising safety drill activities
  • Assists with general maintenance of the school building and grounds in cooperation with custodial/maintenance staff
  • Engages in professional growth and development opportunities through coursework, seminars, workshops, professional organizations and literature, and research
  • Performs other related duties as assigned
