About the position

Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center and the Geisel School of Medicine at Dartmouth College are seeking outstanding candidates for the Herman O. West Professorship in Geriatric Medicine. Dartmouth Health is accredited by The Institute for Health Care Improvement (IHI) as an Age Friendly Health System and home to faculty, fellows, and staff who have a passion for patient care, medical education, scholarship and community health. Our mission is to advance health through research, education, clinical practice and community partnerships, providing each person the best care, in the right place, at the right time, every time. This Professorship would provide academic leadership to the Geriatric Center of Excellence at Dartmouth Health (GCE). The interprofessional team at the GCE works closely with clinical, education and research teams from Community & Family Medicine, Internal Medicine, Psychiatry, Neurology and Emergency Medicine to advance vital aging and the highest quality of life for older adults. The vision for the GCE is to be seen by our community, the region, and the nation as a leader in the development, promotion, measurement and provision of high-quality sustainable care for older adults. The GCE includes clinicians, educators and researchers from all clinical disciplines including medicine, nursing, social work, psychology and pharmacy. Dartmouth has been awarded major geriatric grants and donor funds to improve the health of older adults through education and innovative clinical care. We have been awarded a $4 million Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA) Geriatric Workforce Enhancement Program (GWEP) cooperative agreement and also Co-Lead the GWEP Coordinating Center at The American Geriatrics Society. We have also been accredited as a Level 1 Geriatric Emergency Department from the American College of Emergency Physicians. This accreditation was recently achieved as part of a $3 million West Health Foundation Geriatric Emergency Department grant focusing on a hub and spoke model to support and facilitate geriatric emergency department accreditation in 4 rural hospitals in VT and NY.
