About the position

The Heavy Truck Shop Mechanic is responsible for performing skilled tasks in the repair and maintenance of all fleet vehicles and equipment used by Sunland Asphalt & Construction, Inc. This role emphasizes safety, customer focus, and teamwork, ensuring that all repairs and services meet company standards and regulations.

Responsibilities

• Diagnose service and repair trucks/equipment using electronic scan tools.
• Perform certified annual DOT inspections.
• Perform routine maintenance services and adjustments on fluid levels, hoses, belts, brakes, tires, clutches, electrical, hydraulic systems, engines, transmissions, and differentials.
• Perform scheduled PM services.
• Responsible for parts ordering.
• Keep tools, equipment, and work area clean, organized, and in good working condition.
• Road test vehicles.
• Any and all duties as assigned.

Requirements

• A high school diploma or GED is preferred.
• A minimum of two (2) to three (3) years heavy equipment truck maintenance required, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Must be fluent in English, i.e. must be able to speak, read and write English.
• A current driver's license is preferred.
• A CDL license is preferred and may even be required for some departments/divisions.
• Must have a clean motor-vehicle record.
• Passing a pre-employment drug and alcohol screening and background check is required.

Nice-to-haves

• Experience with electronic scan tools for diagnostics.
• Knowledge of safety regulations and practices in a shop environment.
