About the position

The primary function of this position is to operate a variety of heavy equipment including Cat 308 excavators, front-end loaders, skid-steers, trackhoes, backhoes, excavators, dozers, graders, and trenchers. The operator will actively support the Company's commitment to safety and adhere to the Company's Core Values and Code of Business Conduct and Ethics. Typical duties include loading and unloading equipment and supplies, precision positioning of equipment, lifting heavy machinery and components, and using hoisting attachments to lift, move, and position loads. Operators will also observe load hookup, determine safety of loads, and inspect and report on crane and hoisting mechanisms. Communication with team members is essential, and operators must be attentive to follow directions closely. The role involves digging trenches and holes of specified dimensions, working around existing underground utilities, and understanding shoring, soil classes, and dewatering. Additionally, operators will identify safety hazards and take corrective actions as necessary.

Responsibilities

  • Operate a variety of heavy equipment including excavators, loaders, and dozers.

  • Load and unload equipment and supplies.
  • Position equipment precisely and lift heavy machinery and components.
  • Use pilot operated joystick controls, pedals, levers, and buttons to operate equipment.
  • Observe load hookup and determine safety of loads.
  • Inspect and report on crane and hoisting mechanisms.
  • Communicate with team members verbally and by signal instruction.
  • Dig trenches and holes of specified length, depth, and width.
  • Work around existing underground utilities and in tight areas.
  • Understand shoring, soil classes, and dewatering.
  • Remove loosened material and transport it as needed.
  • Identify safety hazards and take corrective actions as necessary.
  • Perform other job-related duties as requested by supervision.

Requirements

  • Minimum of three years of mechanical, industrial, or refinery maintenance experience.
  • General knowledge of basic hand tools.
  • Ability to pass equipment test and visual observation of operating equipment.
  • Completion of Matrix Service Safety training and/or Client/Site specific training.
  • Must pass a background check.
  • Must obtain and maintain active status within the applicable drug testing program.
