About the position

The Healthcare Protection Officer (HPO) is responsible for ensuring the physical and personal security of members, staff, and visitors within healthcare facilities. This role involves responding to emergencies, preserving order, enforcing regulations, and protecting staff and property from theft or hazards, including workplace violence. The HPO collaborates with security and clinical leaders to identify and mitigate security risks, providing a professional security presence and acting as a safety ambassador.

Responsibilities

  • Respond to crimes in progress and take appropriate action.
  • Make private person arrests when necessary and within policy.
  • Lead Code Gray response teams.
  • Lead de-escalation efforts.
  • Provide a professional security presence.
  • Act as a safety ambassador for the facility.
  • Provide campus safety recommendations.
  • Liaison with administrative and clinical leadership.
  • Establish and maintain a good working relationship with local law enforcement.
  • Serve as the facility subject matter expert on the Prevention of Workplace Violence.
  • Respond to and investigate incidents of workplace violence.
  • Provide PWV training to all staff.
  • Stay current on training and trends in the PWV field.
  • Lead and support threat management investigations.
  • Mitigate potential threats through collaboration with key stakeholders and the Threat Management Team.
  • Train and evaluate new officers.

Requirements

  • 3+ years of security, military, or law enforcement related experience.
  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Ability to pass physical aptitude test (PAT) which may include timed push-ups, sit-ups, physical agility assessment, and a life-sized dummy drag.
  • Valid Driver's License.
  • California Bureau of Security and Investigative Service (BSIS) Guard Card.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in conflict management (3 years preferred).
  • Military experience (3 years preferred).
  • Law enforcement experience (3 years preferred).
