About The Position

The Healthcare Coder ensures that codes are assigned correctly and sequenced appropriately as per government and insurance regulations. This role complies with all medical coding guidelines, follows up and clarifies any unclear information with the rendering provider, and conducts ad-hoc audits to ensure fidelity to coding guidelines. The coder will serve as a relevant expert for Southwest Network on accurate and efficient coding practices and will analyze medical records to identify documentation deficiencies. Non-essential functions include following policies and procedures, adhering to the Corporate Compliance Program, and ensuring the confidentiality of information in accordance with HIPAA standards and Southwest Network policy. The role also adheres to legal, ethical, and professional guidelines adopted by Southwest Network, and performs other duties as assigned.

Requirements

• Associate degree in medical coding or successful completion of a certification program required.
• Must have a minimum of 1 year of experience working in multi-specialty coding.
• Must maintain a valid Arizona state fingerprint clearance card.
• Must have and maintain a valid Arizona driver’s license.
• Must be at least 21 years of age.
• Strong understanding of medical terms
• In-depth understanding of medical coding guidelines
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to maintain a high level of integrity and confidentiality of medical information.
• Must be competent in the use of electronic medical records software, as well as in the use of a computer, printer, copier, and telephone.
• Must be highly proficient in the use of Microsoft Office software, including Outlook, Word, and Excel.
• Must be able to effectively use the internet and various web browsers.

Nice To Haves

• Preferred typing skills of 25 to 40 WPM.
