About The Position

The Healthcare Coder is responsible for ensuring accurate and compliant medical coding. This role involves analyzing medical records, assigning appropriate codes according to regulations, and communicating with providers for clarification. The position also requires conducting audits, maintaining confidentiality, and adhering to compliance programs. The role is hybrid and requires travel between company sites and within the community.

Requirements

  • Associate degree in medical coding or successful completion of a certification program required.
  • Must have a minimum of 1 year of experience working in multi-specialty coding.
  • Must maintain a valid Arizona state fingerprint clearance card.
  • Must have and maintain a valid Arizona driver’s license.
  • Must be at least 21 years of age.
  • Strong understanding of medical terms
  • In-depth understanding of medical coding guidelines
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to maintain a high level of integrity and confidentiality of medical information.
  • Must be competent in the use of electronic medical records software, as well as in the use of a computer, printer, copier, and telephone.
  • Must be highly proficient in the use of Microsoft Office software, including Outlook, Word, and Excel.
  • Must be able to effectively use the internet and various web browsers.

Nice To Haves

  • Preferred typing skills of 25 to 40 WPM.

Responsibilities

  • Ensures that codes are assigned correctly and sequenced appropriately as per government and insurance regulations
  • Complies with all medical coding guidelines
  • Follows up and clarifies any information that is not clear with the rendering provider
  • Conducts ad-hoc audits to ensure fidelity to coding guidelines
  • Relevant expert for Southwest Network on accurate and efficient coding practices
  • Analyze medical records and identify documentation deficiencies
  • Follows policies and procedures and adheres to the requirements of the Corporate Compliance Program.
  • Ensures confidentiality of verbal and written information in accordance with HIPAA standards and Southwest Network policy, and adheres to the legal, ethical, and professional guidelines adopted by Southwest Network.
  • Other duties as assigned.
