About The Position

This role provides daily operational and administrative support for the Acute Care Cardiology (ACCU) unit and outpatient services. The Health Unit Coordinator functions as a resource for clinical personnel regarding unit and outpatient operational issues. They anticipate the needs of the department and provide coordination of information systems, environmental, admitting, and clerical functions for patient areas within a medical center dedicated to the care of infants, children, and adolescents. The position involves maintaining medical record integrity, managing supplies, ensuring a safe and organized environment, and coordinating patient flow. Additionally, the role requires managing communication systems, responding to alarms, and ensuring the accuracy and security of patient information, including HIPAA compliance.

Responsibilities

  • Operates and maintains unit information systems, including medical record integrity, forms management, and timely response to communications.
  • Ensures accuracy of patient data and timely completion of admissions, discharges, transfers, and short stay documentation.
  • Demonstrates fiscal responsibility regarding patient charges and rental equipment, and maintains clerical supply levels.
  • Ensures unit areas are organized, safe, accessible, effective, and efficient.
  • Monitors traffic flow at the front desk and on the unit, and assists with compliance of visitor policies.
  • Reports and follows up on maintenance and environmental service needs.
  • Collaborates with various staff to coordinate efficient patient flow.
  • Identifies system problems and utilizes strategies for resolutions.
  • Responds to communication system/patient alarms with urgency.
  • Reviews and revises staffing information.
  • Demonstrates exceptional customer service in all interactions.
  • Interacts with parents/guardians to obtain non-clinical information.
  • Ensures timeliness, accuracy, availability, and security of patient information, including HIPAA, Informed Consent, and Advanced Directives.
  • Has in-depth knowledge of HIPAA standards and fosters application to clinical practice.
  • Provides daily operational/administrative support for the unit and outpatient services.
