About the position

The Health Unit Coordinator (HUC) in the Burns ICU is responsible for supporting the daily operations of the patient care unit through clerical and administrative tasks. This part-time position is specifically for weekends, providing essential support to the healthcare team and ensuring effective communication and organization within the unit.

Responsibilities

• Perform receptionist and secretary activities for the assigned area, greeting patients, guests, and staff courteously.
• Utilize professional telephone etiquette, promptly answering calls and routing messages appropriately.
• Maintain accurate logs and records, organizing and prioritizing various aspects of work.
• Process electronic mail and messages, ensuring timely communication within the unit.
• Maintain unit Medical Records, ensuring they are properly assembled and filed according to policies.
• Transcribe, enter, and recognize manual and electronic information accurately and timely.
• Compile statistics and data for reporting purposes and maintain census reports.
• Track and monitor unit equipment and supplies, ensuring availability and proper maintenance.
• Assist with patient needs that do not directly relate to medical or nursing care, including room preparation and meal service.
• Maintain a neat and orderly environment in the unit, including the nursing station and patient areas.

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Completion of an accredited Unit Coordinator/Clerk program or one year of related job experience or college coursework.
• Valid BLS Certification.
• Proficient in typing, spelling, and medical terminology.

• Experience in a healthcare setting.
• Familiarity with hospital information systems.
