About The Position

NeighborImpact is seeking a Health Services Specialist to join their Head Start Program. This role is crucial in supporting the health and well-being of children in Early Head Start and Head Start programs. The specialist will provide technical and health services, conduct sensory screenings, support dental services, monitor health plans, and ensure children and enrolled pregnant women receive timely care. This position involves direct family engagement to help them access healthcare and well-child services, and collaboration with classroom staff and advocates. Responsibilities also include managing health data in the ChildPlus system, monitoring screening and nutrition reports, and maintaining immunization and WIC records. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, a team player, communicates effectively, and is committed to confidentiality and the well-being of children and families.

Requirements

  • Associate's degree required, with documented college course work (two or more classes) or in-service/CEU training (15 or more hours) in children’s health and/or nutrition. Or equivalent education or certification may be considered.
  • Within 6 months of hire, Level 3 CPR/1st Aid Instructor Certification.
  • Must have an initial health examination and a periodic re-examination to ensure employees do not pose a significant risk to the health or safety of others due to communicable diseases.
  • Regular and consistent in-person attendance is required.
  • Regular access to a personal vehicle for use on the job.
  • Valid driver’s license.
  • Proof of current auto insurance.
  • Access to reliable transportation.
  • Satisfactory Motor Vehicle Records check.
  • Current enrollment in the OR Central Background Registry (CBR).
  • Within 60 days of hire, Pediatric CPR/First Aid certification is required and must be kept current.
  • Access to reliable transportation required.

Nice To Haves

  • At least one year of experience in an early childhood or child health setting.
  • One year of experience working with families with young children (work, volunteer, or college practicum/internship).
  • Bi-lingual English/Spanish speaker.
  • Head Start parent or past parent.

Responsibilities

  • Provide technical and health services in support of Early Head Start and Head Start programs.
  • Conduct sensory screenings.
  • Support dental services.
  • Monitor individual classroom health plans.
  • Ensure children and enrolled pregnant women receive the care they need on time.
  • Connect directly with families to help them access ongoing healthcare and stay on top of well-child care.
  • Work alongside classroom staff and advocates as a trusted partner and resource.
  • Help bridge the gap when health or developmental concerns arise.
  • Manage health data in the ChildPlus system.
  • Monitor screening and nutrition reports.
  • Maintain immunization and WIC records.
