About the position

The Health Services Assistant for Early Head Start plays a crucial role in supporting high-quality nutrition services and health care for infants, toddlers, and families. This position involves collaboration with community partners and the implementation of health and nutrition programs, ensuring compliance with Head Start Performance Standards and state regulations. The assistant will also maintain comprehensive records and engage with families to promote health awareness and education.

Responsibilities

  • Support the provision of high-quality nutrition services and education for infants, toddlers, and families.
  • Assist the Health/MH/Nutrition Specialist in developing and overseeing the Child and Adult Care Food Program application.
  • Provide training and technical assistance to program and center staff regarding nutrition services.
  • Collaborate with community partners, parents, and nutrition providers to advance healthy nutrition awareness.
  • Ensure compliance with Head Start Performance Standards and applicable state health regulations.
  • Maintain comprehensive recordkeeping and reporting systems for health services.
  • Conduct health home visits, screenings, and assessments with families and pregnant women.
  • Participate in the Health Services Advisory Committee and maintain relationships with community organizations.
  • Assist with the development and administration of the CACFP budget and ensure fiscal integrity.
  • Engage in comprehensive planning to develop and improve nutrition goals and outcomes.

Requirements

  • Nurse Assistant or Medical Assistant Certification/Degree or Associate Degree in health services or food service/Nutrition related field.
  • Two or more years of experience as a nurse assistant or medical assistant or experience with CACFP Program.
  • Competency in using computer hardware and software for maintaining health services records.
  • Valid Driver's License, Personal Vehicle, and Liability Insurance required.

Nice-to-haves

  • Three or more years of experience in health services at Head Start or community health services.
  • Current training/certification to teach Infant/Child CPR and First Aid.
  • Knowledge of Head Start Performance Standards.
  • Bi-lingual in English/Spanish preferred.
  • Advanced knowledge of MS Office Suite.
