About The Position

Uwharrie Charter Academy (UCA), a public K–12 charter school in Asheboro, North Carolina, is seeking an enthusiastic, student-centered Health Science Teacher for grades 9–12. UCA utilizes a STEAM-focused curriculum built on Relationships, Rigor, and Relevance, aiming to graduate students skilled in critical thinking, problem-solving, collaboration, and responsible citizenship. The Health Science Teacher will be passionate about preparing students for healthcare careers through engaging, real-world learning experiences. This role involves instructing high school students in Health Sciences, covering anatomy, physiology, disease prevention, healthcare systems, and basic healthcare skills. The teacher will foster learning through hands-on activities, projects, discussions, and practical applications, preparing students for advanced studies and entry-level healthcare opportunities.

Requirements

  • Appropriate North Carolina teaching licensure in Health Science Education or the ability to obtain licensure.
  • Bachelor's degree in Health Science, Nursing, Allied Health, Education, or a related field.
  • Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to establish and maintain positive working relationships with students, staff, parents, and community members.
  • Must successfully pass a criminal background check and drug screening.
  • Ability to utilize educational technology and classroom management systems.
  • Proficiency with: Google Docs and Google Sheets
  • Outstanding written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills.
  • Excellent classroom management abilities.

Responsibilities

  • Design and deliver instructional lessons aligned to North Carolina curriculum standards and Health Science pathways.
  • Provide planned learning experiences that motivate students, utilize best instructional practices, encourage parent participation, adhere to UCA’s educational model, and are developmentally appropriate.
  • Develop current lesson plans and instructional materials that provide individualized and small-group instruction to meet diverse student needs.
  • Utilize hands-on learning, project-based learning, simulations, labs, and real-world healthcare applications.
  • Select and implement instructional materials, resources, and technology that support innovative and engaging learning experiences.
  • Identify, record, and reflect on student needs while collaborating with professional learning communities to assess, plan, monitor, and implement interventions that support student success.
  • Work collaboratively with parents and guardians to support student achievement and growth.
  • Establish and maintain high standards of student behavior to create an optimal learning environment.
  • Develop a classroom culture built on respect, accountability, and student engagement.
  • Maintain a functional, attractive, and organized classroom aligned with curriculum goals and healthcare industry expectations.
  • Coordinate and supervise the work of teacher assistants, volunteers, and paraprofessionals as appropriate.
  • Administer formative, summative, performance-based, and standardized assessments as required.
  • Evaluate student academic growth and skill development while maintaining accurate records.
  • Prepare progress reports and communicate effectively with parents regarding student performance and progress.
  • Utilize assessment data to drive instructional decisions and improve student outcomes.
  • Communicate with parents, administrators, and colleagues in a timely and professional manner.
  • Actively participate in Professional Learning Communities (PLCs).
  • Supervise students during assigned duties and school-related activities.
  • Sponsor student organizations and activities as assigned.
  • Serve on school committees and participate in school improvement initiatives.
  • Attend all school functions and professional responsibilities as required by school administration.
