About The Position

The Health Information Systems (HIS) Senior Support Specialist supports effective use, optimization, and ongoing improvement of health information systems. This role provides advanced system support, helps streamline workflows, develops training and documentation, analyzes data to support operational and quality initiatives, and serves as a key liaison among Health Information Systems, Quality Improvement, IT, and programs. This position helps ensure that technology solutions are efficient, compliant, and aligned with organizational needs.

Requirements

  • Minimum of three (3) years of experience working with Electronic Health Record systems (Netsmart myAvatar preferred) in a clinical, informatics, healthcare IT, or quality improvement context.
  • Demonstrated experience analyzing and optimizing clinical workflows within EHR systems.
  • Experience providing EHR support, configuration guidance, and training to clinical staff.
  • Working knowledge of healthcare data standards and terminologies (e.g., ICD10CM, SNOMED CT, CPT).
  • Experience translating clinical requirements into technical or system specifications.
  • Data analysis experience, including report development or data exploration to support operational or quality initiatives.
  • Must pass Department of Justice (DOJ), Federal Bureau of Investigations (FBI), and Community Care Licensing (CCL) background clearance.
  • Valid California Driver’s license.
  • TB clearance.
  • Driving record acceptable for coverage by Gateways insurance carrier.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in publicly funded or regulated healthcare systems (e.g., county behavioral health) preferred.
  • Certification in Clinical Informatics, Health Informatics, or Data Analytics (e.g., Epic, Cerner, SQL, informatics certificates) preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Support the design, implementation, optimization, and maintenance of clinical workflows within Electronic Health Record (EHR) systems to improve efficiency, data integrity, and quality of care.
  • Advise on the implementation and enhancement of EHR systems and related healthcare technologies, including assessing clinical workflow impact and system configuration needs.
  • Provide advanced end-user support for clinical workflows, independently researching, analyzing, and resolving complex system issues.
  • Serve as a clinical technical liaison by translating provider and operational needs into system requirements and workflow solutions.
  • Evaluate and recommend workflow and configuration changes related to EHR upgrades, enhancements, and integrations.
  • Develop and support training materials, user guides, and documentation related to clinical EHR workflows and system use.
  • Deliver training and education to staff on EHR systems, clinical workflows, dashboards, and reporting tools.
  • Analyze and support the preparation of clinical data sets, reports, and preliminary data explorations to inform quality improvement and operational decision making.
  • Collaborate with clinical, Quality Improvement, Health Information Systems, and IT teams to ensure EHR functionality supports safe, compliant, and effective care delivery.
  • Maintain knowledge of applicable healthcare regulations, accreditation standards, and privacy requirements (e.g., HIPAA, CMS, Cal/OSHA) as they relate to EHR use.
  • Perform other related duties consistent with the scope of the role.
