About the position

The Head of School at Excel Academy - Rhode Island is responsible for driving student outcomes and experiences through instructional leadership and team development. This role involves setting high expectations for academic achievement and fostering a culture of equity and inclusion. The Head of School will lead the school's academic program, manage operations, and engage with families to ensure a supportive learning environment for approximately 2,200 students in grades K-12 by the 2030-2031 school year.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the school team to achieve instructional excellence and equity in academic outcomes.
  • Assess performance of the school's academic program and execute intervention programs for diverse academic subgroups.
  • Develop and implement strategies for instructional excellence and student wellness, including professional development and data analysis.
  • Model cultural and instructional excellence, setting high standards for the school community.
  • Develop a high-performing Administrative Team to achieve Excel's mission.
  • Strategically hire, coach, and evaluate teachers and leaders to produce high-quality work.
  • Communicate a strategic vision for achieving Excel's mission and support staff in implementation.
  • Manage relationships with families as critical partners and stakeholders.
  • Oversee the school's budget and manage compliance, safety, assessment, enrollment, and operations.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree required; Master's degree preferred.
  • Minimum of four years of experience in an urban charter or district school setting preferred.
  • Proven track record of strong results in school leadership.
  • Strong strategic thinking skills and understanding of organizational culture and performance.
  • Systematic approach to project management with ability to manage multiple high-priority projects.
  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment and support others.
  • Commitment to addressing racial and economic inequity in education.
  • Openness to change and enthusiasm for continuous improvement.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience leading and/or engaging in anti-racist work.
  • Experience in rigorous classroom instruction and culture.

  • Fluency in Spanish, Portuguese, or Arabic.
