About The Position

The Head of Preservation & Design is a senior leadership role responsible for overseeing both the flower preservation and design functions. Reporting to the Operations Director and operating as a team with the General Manager, this position ensures high-quality production from bloom intake through final artwork while aligning artistic vision with operational efficiency. This leader manages both teams, drives performance, maintains quality standards, and fosters a collaborative, growth-oriented environment.

Responsibilities

  • Lead, mentor, and develop both Preservation and Design teams, fostering a culture of accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
  • Conduct regular team meetings and one-on-ones to provide feedback, track development, and ensure alignment with company goals.
  • Manage staffing, workload distribution, and team priorities across both functions.
  • Provide and uphold the artistic vision and brand standards across all designs.
  • Review and approve designs and preservation outputs to ensure quality and consistency.
  • Maintain strict quality control processes across pressing and final product creation.
  • Oversee the full production pipeline from bloom intake to final design completion.
  • Ensure timely pressing of all blooms and efficient turnaround of custom products.
  • Continuously evaluate and improve workflows, collaborating with Operations on process optimization.
  • Share ownership with the General Manager for driving Cost Per Order (CPO) as a primary performance metric, ensuring all production decisions support cost efficiency without compromising quality.
  • Establish and monitor KPIs (e.g., ratios, quality, turnaround time, customer satisfaction) with a clear connection to CPO impact.
  • Analyze performance data to identify trends, cost drivers, inefficiencies, and opportunities for improvement.
  • Implement strategies in partnership with the General Manager to reduce CPO while improving efficiency, quality, and overall team output.
  • Identify skill gaps and implement training programs across preservation techniques and design skills.
  • Support cross-training to increase team flexibility and production efficiency.
  • Partner with Operations, General Manager, Fulfillment, and Product teams to align production with business goals.
  • Ensure smooth handoffs and communication between preservation and design.
  • Coordinate with the Utah team to fulfill Reorder & Recreation responsibilities and manage Bloom Protection-related inventory in the Georgia shop.
  • Support innovation in products, materials, and processes.
  • Oversee and approve team communication with clients to ensure brand consistency.
  • Act as a point of escalation for client concerns, resolving issues promptly and professionally.
  • Oversee bloom intake, pressing timelines, and preservation processes.
  • Oversee custom design production across all product types.
  • Oversee equipment, materials, and inventory related to preservation and design.
  • Oversee team performance, development, and overall production health.
