About The Position

S&P Dow Jones Indices is seeking a Head of Multi-Asset within the Index Design team to own the strategic direction, priorities, and outcomes of the Research & Design (R&D) and Index Engineering (IE) functions across the Multi-Asset value stream. Reporting to the Head of Index Design this role is accountable for ensuring that R&D and IE efforts - within the Multi-Asset value stream - are focused on both the quality and output of new index designs and the overall efficiency of the build and launch lifecycle. This involves prioritizing the highest‑value opportunities identified by the Product Management team, delivering differentiated index concepts that meet customer needs and advance the firm’s strategic objectives, while also partnering with cross-functional stakeholders to define new workflows and Technology platform enhancements, including AI, that bring scalability to index launches. As lead of a cross-functional group including R&D and IE members, the Head of Multi-Asset for Index Design translates business, product and operational strategy into clear priorities and measurable OKRs, balancing near‑term delivery with long‑term capability development. Working in close partnership with the Multi-Asset Value Stream Business Owner, Product Management, Commercial, Operations and Governance functions, this role ensures efficient, high‑quality execution across index design and launch. Reporting to the Head of Multi-Asset for Index Design will be R&D Team Managers and IE Team Managers with their respective teams. The role will require effective people leadership of these managers and teams to enable them to successfully execute on their objectives and deliverables. This includes supporting the R&D and IE Team Managers with hiring, talent development and coaching responsibilities. The Head of Multi-Asset for Index Design is the senior representative for the asset class, providing strategic input to internal and external stakeholders, shaping best practices, and stewarding the evolution of Index Design capabilities to ensure the organization remains innovative, scalable, and client‑centric. By fostering a high‑performance culture grounded in disciplined execution, collaboration, and integrity, this role plays a critical part in strengthening S&P DJI’s leadership as a global benchmark provider.

Requirements

  • Advanced degree, MBA, or equivalent experience required
  • CFA or PhD desirable
  • 10 + years of experience in R&D roles or related
  • 5+ years of successfully delivering business solutions on an aggressive schedule and/or technology related experience
  • 3+ years of experience leading managers and/or senior professional teams
  • Extensive industry knowledge about most impactful trends and future direction of the core index, wealth, and capital market industries
  • Demonstrated experience owning prioritization, trade‑offs, and outcomes across multiple teams or a portfolio of work
  • Experience representing technical organizations with senior leadership and in senior client or industry engagements

Responsibilities

  • Own prioritization decisions across Research & Design and Index Engineering for the Multi-Asset value stream, ensuring focus on the highest‑value opportunities aligned to business and customer needs
  • Translate business and product strategy into clear value stream priorities and measurable OKRs, balancing near‑term delivery with long‑term capability development
  • Define an operating process which delegates day-to-day backlog prioritization and delivery to the R&D and IE Team Managers
  • Act as the senior Index Design “voice of the customer” for the value stream, incorporating internal/external feedback across the full lifecycle of index design and launch
  • Accountable for value stream outcomes against agreed OKRs, including delivery performance, quality, and capabilities
  • Resolve cross‑team dependencies and trade‑offs, by actively identifying issues and solutions, setting priorities to remove execution blockers
  • Own the evolution and consistent application of the Index Design operating model and agile practices at the value stream level in partnership with the Head of Index Design and peer Value Stream leads
  • Define and maintain best practices across the full lifecycle of index design by contributing to cross‑value‑stream R&D standards in partnership with the Head of Index Design and peer Value Stream Leads
  • Partner with Compliance, Legal, Index Operations and Governance to protect analytical firewalls while optimizing operational excellence
  • Lead and develop R&D and IE Team Managers, supporting them with people leadership, delivery execution, and team backlog ownership
  • Own forward‑looking capability planning for the value stream, including identification of skill gaps, succession needs, and development priorities
  • Lead performance calibration across R&D and IE teams within the value stream to ensure consistency, fairness, and alignment with enterprise standards
  • Serve as the senior Index Design representative for the asset class, providing strategic input to internal stakeholders and representing the organization in senior client and industry engagements
