About the position

The Head of Balance Sheet Management at MassMutual is a pivotal role within the Treasury Organization, responsible for driving regulatory capital, financing, and liquidity strategies to maximize policyowners' value. This position involves leading a team to develop and manage strategies for regulatory capital and liquidity, overseeing subsidiary dividends, and ensuring effective governance and controls. The role requires collaboration with various finance functions and business areas, as well as presenting strategic recommendations to senior management.

Responsibilities

  • Develop strategies to manage regulatory capital, debt, and liquidity positions.
  • Manage MassMutual's subsidiary dividends policy and lead the quarterly dividend declaration process.
  • Oversee regulatory capital and operating liquidity modeling, reporting, and documentation.
  • Refine performance management methodologies to measure balance sheet efficiency.
  • Collaborate with Treasury, Investment Management, and ERM to enhance regulatory capital and liquidity positions.
  • Drive the agenda for Capital Committee meetings and provide analysis for strategic decision-making.
  • Recommend optimal financing mix and manage internal and external debt administration.
  • Coordinate with Internal Audit and Enterprise Risk Management to ensure effective controls.
  • Engage with industry peers to understand best practices in regulatory capital and liquidity.

Requirements

  • BS in accounting, finance, or actuarial science.
  • 15+ years of experience in capital management, financial analysis, risk management, or accounting in the financial services sector, preferably in life insurance.
  • Deep understanding of various capital markets and investments.
  • Knowledge of financing strategies and experience in structuring complex transactions.
  • Proven experience in managing committees or industry/regulatory groups.
  • Detail-oriented with excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Experience leading teams during periods of change.
  • Strong multi-tasking skills and adaptability to change.
  • Ability to take ownership of projects and drive them to completion.

Nice-to-haves

  • In-depth knowledge of statutory accounting and capital frameworks (U.S. risk-based capital, Solvency 2, etc.).
  • Prior experience in balance sheet management.
  • Investment banking experience.
