About the position

Taylor University is seeking a dedicated and experienced individual for the position of Head Football Coach. This full-time, 12-month exempt role is based in Upland, Indiana, and is integral to the university's mission of developing servant leaders who are passionate about ministering Christ's redemptive love and truth. The Head Football Coach will oversee all aspects of the football program, ensuring that it aligns with the university's values and standards. The responsibilities of the Head Coach include managing scheduling, recruiting, budget oversight, and supervising assistant coaches. Additionally, the coach will lead fundraising initiatives and foster spiritual discipleship among the team members. The role requires active participation in the athletic department, with additional responsibilities assigned as needed. The Head Coach will also be responsible for teaching and mentoring student-athletes in a competitive environment, modeling behavior that reflects the highest standards of excellence in alignment with the mission and vision of Taylor University and its athletic department. Furthermore, the Head Coach must stay informed about the latest philosophies in football and ensure compliance with all relevant regulations from the NAIA, Mid-States Football Association, and Taylor University regarding eligibility and recruiting. This position is not only about coaching but also about developing young men and women into well-rounded individuals who excel in their athletic pursuits while growing academically and spiritually.

Responsibilities

  • Manage all aspects of the football program including scheduling, recruiting, and budget management.
  • Supervise assistant coaches and lead fundraising initiatives.
  • Foster spiritual discipleship among team members.
  • Teach and mentor student-athletes in a competitive environment.
  • Model behavior and promote high standards that align with the university's mission and vision.
  • Develop strategies consistent with current football philosophies.
  • Adhere to all NAIA, Mid-States Football Association, and Taylor University rules and regulations regarding eligibility and recruiting.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree required; Master's degree preferred.
  • 3 to 5 years of head coaching experience at the collegiate or high school level, or high-level assistant coaching experience within a collegiate program.
  • Demonstrated football coaching experience and commitment to a Christian lifestyle and coaching perspective.
  • Ability to mentor and motivate student-athletes in skill development, academic scholarship, and spiritual growth.

Nice-to-haves

  • Collegiate coaching experience preferred.
  • Knowledge and experience in developing effective competitive and recruiting strategies that fit within NAIA and conference regulations.
