The Head Coach for Women's Basketball will direct, provide leadership, and oversee all coaching duties for Chaminade University's Women's Basketball Program at practices, games, recruiting, team travel, public relations activities, and all phases of the program as needed or directed. The person will be required to become familiar with and adhere to Chaminade University policies, NCAA rules pertaining to institutional control and compliance, and the Pacific West Conference, and NCAA Division II philosophies. The person must be committed to a philosophy that emphasizes the pursuit of excellence in both academics and athletics.

Responsibilities

  • Organizes and conducts individual and team practices, training, and competition.
  • Directs all aspects, areas, and components of the sports team.
  • Coordinates all strategic aspects of the specific sports program.
  • Pass the driving exam and be cleared by the University to drive the vans to practices and games.
  • Monitor player development in athletics and academics.
  • Monitor/evaluate the physical performance and health of athletes.
  • Oversee strength and conditioning program for team members.
  • Represent the University on all PacWest Conference sports coaches' teleconferences.
  • Film breakdown and review with the coaching staff and student-athletes for game preparation.
  • Responsible for the overall management of the team and program.
  • Maintain knowledge of and comply with the rules of NCAA Division II Requirements.
  • Oversees purchase and maintenance of all team training equipment.
  • Evaluates and recruits student-athletes following NCAA rules and regulations.
  • Coordinates with admissions and academic evaluator to assist student-athlete through academic requirements.
  • Handle all communication aspects with recruits verbally and/or written within NCAA compliance rules.
  • Manage recruiting budget and athletic aid balance for athletic awards.
  • Attend various ID camps, showcases, and other competitions for recruitment.
  • Ensure that all compliance reports are completed thoroughly and on time.
  • Complete proper paperwork for athletics including expense reports.
  • Attend all Chaminade athletic department meetings.
  • Obtain and maintain necessary NCAA and other coaching certifications.
  • Responsible for the team's equipment needs and managing the team's budget.
  • Continuously liaise and communicate with the Athletic Director and others regarding scheduling.
  • Assist the Director of Athletics and Sports Information in community engagement projects.
  • Administrative representation at some athletic events.
  • Work with the Athletics department staff on the annual golf tournament.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree required; Master's Degree preferred.
  • Prior collegiate coaching and playing experience required.
  • A demonstrated commitment to integrity.

  • Effective interpersonal and leadership skills.
  • The ability to work cooperatively and effectively with people of diverse backgrounds.

  • Computer proficiency, i.e., Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), Teamworks.
  • Must have a valid Driver's License.

Benefits

  • Part-time exempt position with a general rule of twenty hours per week.
  • Occasional nights and weekends may be required.
