About the position

The Head Sprint Football Coach at Walsh University is responsible for overseeing all aspects of the Sprint football program, including recruitment, training, and development of student-athletes. This role requires collaboration with the VP of Athletics and Athletic Director, as well as compliance with NCAA Division II regulations. The coach will manage the program's budget, design practice and game plans, and foster the overall growth of student-athletes both on and off the field.

Responsibilities

  • Plan, organize, and manage all phases of the Sprint football program.
  • Recruit and retain quality student-athletes.
  • Support the development of the Sprint Football program to improve skills specific to competition.
  • Manage the sprint football operating budget.
  • Design and execute practice and game plans, and construct season schedules.
  • Supervise travel to away games.
  • Determine individual player abilities, strengths, and weaknesses for gameplay and strategy sessions.
  • Establish and enforce rules of conduct for student-athletes.
  • Mentor student-athletes to foster their growth in various aspects.
  • Coordinate academic and athletic efforts with faculty and staff.
  • Monitor academic progress to ensure eligibility with university requirements.
  • Maintain compliance with all rules and regulations set forth by the university and MSFL.
  • Create fundraising opportunities for the program's growth.
  • Establish community service initiatives and promote a positive image of the university.
  • Hire, train, and manage assistant coaches and other staff.
  • Provide performance feedback to direct reports and support their development.
  • Collaborate with Athletic Trainers and Head Strength & Conditioning Coach.
  • Ensure proper maintenance of assigned sport facilities.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree required.
  • 5 years of football coaching and recruitment experience.
  • Professional demeanor and ability to interact positively with students, staff, faculty, and parents.
  • Passion for football and in-depth knowledge of the game.
  • Strong management, organizational, motivational, and strategizing skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal, leadership, and communication skills.
  • Proven successful recruiting of quality student-athletes.
  • Ability to handle multiple projects concurrently and be results-oriented.
  • Solid Microsoft Office skills and comfort with technology enhancements.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in NCAA Division II athletics.
  • Knowledge of fundraising strategies for athletic programs.
