About the position

The Hazard Mitigation Specialist position at Tidal Basin Group is a temporary role focused on assisting clients with the implementation and management of Hazard Mitigation (HM) Programs. The specialist will ensure the effectiveness and efficiency of various HM programs while coordinating with clients and applying FEMA's Hazard Mitigation Assistance (HMA) Grant Program's guidance. This role requires strong communication skills, technical knowledge, and the ability to work under pressure to support disaster-related initiatives.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate the collection, distribution, and maintenance of HMA funding and disaster-related information.
  • Act as a liaison to client counterparts regarding FEMA mitigation grant programs.
  • Write, develop, and review Mitigation plans.
  • Coordinate with other FEMA programs, including the Hazard Mitigation Grant Program activities under Section 404 of the Stafford Act.
  • Provide insight and coordination of technical assistance for project eligibility analysis.
  • Serve as Project Lead for HMA contract work as assigned.
  • Understand the interrelationships between HMA grants and other functional areas within the Business Unit.
  • Work through incomplete and conflicting data.
  • Explain, define, and advise clients on HMA rules, regulations, and processes.
  • Travel as required to support business initiatives and projects.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in emergency management, Engineering, or a related field, or a minimum of seven years of emergency management experience if no degree is held.
  • 3-5+ years of progressively responsible experience in HM work at local or state government agencies, federal agencies, or related fields.
  • Knowledge of laws, regulations, and directives related to Federal mitigation grants.
  • Understanding of emergency management, mitigation concepts, and principles.
  • Working knowledge of Hazard Mitigation Assistance Grant project or program management principles.

Nice-to-haves

  • Technical background in project management, engineering, construction, or financial management.
  • Experience with public speaking and conducting webinars.
  • Advanced user of SharePoint, Microsoft Office, and Adobe Pro.
