About the position

The City of Evanston Gymnastics Program offers instructional classes to children ages 18 months to 14 years. The Morning Gymnastics Instructor is responsible for coaching ages 1.5-3.5 years in Gymnastics with a Grown Up group classes and 3.5-5.5 years in Preschool Gymnastics group classes, according to the provided weekly lesson plans. Opportunities to coach private lessons and birthday parties are available.

Responsibilities

  • Attend staff training sessions
  • Be positive, patient, and engaging
  • Responsible for the safety of participants
  • Instruct and facilitate program activities for participants, according to weekly lesson plans
  • Assist with program set up as needed
  • Maintain open communication with the Program Supervisor/Coordinator, other staff, and Family/Guardian/Caregiver with information concerning programming, families, and/or participants
  • Report participant progress and behavior within program setting to parents/Supervisor
  • Ensure all participants are properly dismissed to caregiver
  • Communicate to supervisor(s) if there are problems or issues needing special attention
  • Responsible for care and maintenance equipment and storage areas
  • Complete written reports such as accident, incident and the like on a timely manner
  • Performs other duties as assigned by camp director, camp assistant directors or program manager

Requirements

  • Must possess four (4) years of experience working with ages 1.5-5.5 years in an instructional group setting, including one (1) year or more of supervisory experience within a gymnastics, tumbling, or dance program
  • Must possess or be willing to obtain USAG Recreational Coach Membership and maintain it as a condition of employment
  • Must be able to obtain CPR/AED/First Aid certification from a nationally recognized institution and maintain it as a condition of employment
  • Must demonstrate knowledge of child developmental milestones

Nice-to-haves

  • At least 1 year experience working with children
  • At least 1 year experience participating in team or club sports

Benefits

  • Starting pay rate of $22.71/hr
