About the position
The Guidance Counselor assumes major responsibility for counseling and guidance services for students assigned at the building level. This role involves a variety of duties aimed at supporting students' academic and personal development.
Responsibilities
- Scheduling students in their program of studies
- Implementing testing programs
- Acting as a consultant to parents regarding their child and his/her progress and/or adjustment
- Participating in the 8-Step Process of instruction and remediation/enrichment
- Providing personal counseling for students experiencing adjustment difficulties
- Using data to guide instructional decision making
- Working collaboratively in a Professional Learning Community
- Acting as a consultant to teachers regarding individual students with learning and/or behavior problems
- Guiding students regarding career development
- Helping students to obtain financial aid for post-high school education
- Referring students to outside agencies for help when necessary
- Registration and orientation of new students
- Assisting with the coordination of case conferences
- Designing and implementing innovative programming for adolescent students and families
Requirements
- Master's degree in guidance and counseling
- Indiana State license in school counseling
- Experience with intermediate school age students
- Observed ability to establish strong rapport with students and adults
