The Guidance Counselor assumes major responsibility for counseling and guidance services for students assigned at the building level. This role involves a variety of duties aimed at supporting students' academic and personal development.
Responsibilities
Scheduling students in their program of studies
Implementing testing programs
Acting as a consultant to parents regarding their child and his/her progress and/or adjustment
Participating in the 8-Step Process of instruction and remediation/enrichment
Providing personal counseling for students experiencing adjustment difficulties
Using data to guide instructional decision making
Working collaboratively in a Professional Learning Community
Acting as a consultant to teachers regarding individual students with learning and/or behavior problems
Guiding students regarding career development
Helping students to obtain financial aid for post-high school education
Referring students to outside agencies for help when necessary
Registration and orientation of new students
Assisting with the coordination of case conferences
Designing and implementing innovative programming for adolescent students and families
Requirements
Master's degree in guidance and counseling
Indiana State license in school counseling
Experience with intermediate school age students
Observed ability to establish strong rapport with students and adults
