About the position

The position involves assisting students in evaluating their aptitudes and abilities through the interpretation of individual standardized test scores and other pertinent data. The counselor works with students to develop education and occupation plans based on these evaluations. The role requires being readily available to students to provide counseling that promotes personal growth, self-understanding, and maturity. The counselor also plays an active role in communicating the school's objectives to students, parents, and the community. Collaboration with teachers and staff is essential to improve the educational prospects of students. The counselor guides students in participating in school and community activities, disseminates occupational information, and helps evaluate career interests. Responsibilities include organizing annual 'Career Day', addressing personal problems, conferring with parents, registering new students, maintaining student records, and working to resolve educational handicaps. The counselor also plans guidance field trips, makes recommendations for college admissions and scholarships, attends P.P.S. meetings, maintains discipline, assists with student registration, and consults with habitually truant students.

  • Makes recommendations to colleges for admissions and scholarships.
  • Attends building P.P.S. meetings as a standing member of the P.P.S. team.
  • Works with students to maintain proper discipline and attitude.
  • Assists in the registration and scheduling of students.
  • Consults with habitually truant students and assists in follow-up procedures.
  • Completes other duties as assigned by administration.

Requirements

  • Valid Illinois State Board of Education Professional Educator License required.
  • School counselor Pre-K through Age 22 required.
