About the position

Grand Canyon USD #4 is seeking qualified persons interested in fulfilling the duties of a K-12 Guidance Counselor located inside Grand Canyon National Park. We have a 4 day school week, affordable housing, excellent medical benefits, and a beautiful place to work and live. The School Guidance Counselor is responsible for assisting students in areas of academic achievement, personal or social development, and career and/or college exploration so that each student can identify personal goals, strengths, weaknesses, and interests and grow to become a well-adjusted and productive adult. This position requires an extremely perceptive person who is capable of relating to all individuals within the district - students, parents, staff members and community members. The ability to maintain confidentiality is critical in this position. In addition, the School Guidance Counselor must be sensitive to the needs of the district, students, parents and staff.

Responsibilities

  • Assesses the needs, strengths, and weaknesses of students through a variety of means, including one-on-one assessments, conversations, or interviews; standardized or aptitude testing; small group activities; and observations throughout the school day.
  • Collaborates with students to identify career aspirations and academic goals; provides information and answers questions related to college applications and career choices including FAFSA.
  • Assists students with academic planning, accountability, and/or organization.
  • Teaches a variety of skills including social skills, study skills, and test-taking skills.
  • Counsels students with personal, social, disciplinary, and behavioral issues.
  • Collaborates with teachers to identify ways to improve the achievement and social development of students.
  • Promptly notifies appropriate authorities of any reports or suspicions of crimes, abuse, or neglect.
  • Collaborates with other educators, parents, and students to develop, review, renew, and/or modify Individualized Education Plans (IEPs), 504 and ELL plans for students who qualify.
  • Provides crisis counseling.
  • Provides students with presentations on drug awareness, vaping, etc. by utilizing programs from ADE.
  • Revises course catalogs.
  • Coordinates seniors' graduation and 8th grade promotion events.
  • Coordinates annual awards ceremony.
  • Coordinates scholarship solicitation.
  • Serves as testing coordinator for ACT, NMSQT and AP.
  • Serves as online learning programs such as School's PLP.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned or directed.

Requirements

  • Current Arizona Department of Education School Counselor Endorsement Certificate.
  • Current Arizona fingerprint clearance card.
  • Current, valid AZ driver's license.
  • Secondary School Counseling/Teaching experience preferred.

Nice-to-haves

  • Bachelor's degree in an applicable field required; Masters degree preferred.
  • Related experience preferred.
