About the position

The Guardian ad Litem Office is seeking a full-time Attorney to provide independent legal representation to abused, abandoned, and neglected children in Florida's dependency court proceedings. This role involves working as part of a multi-disciplinary team to advocate for children's rights and ensure their best interests are represented in court. The position offers flexibility for remote work after successful onboarding and requires a strong commitment to child advocacy and legal excellence.

Responsibilities

  • Represent children in dependency court proceedings as part of a multi-disciplinary team.
  • Conduct independent investigations of case facts and identify legal issues.
  • Research and develop legal strategies for cases.
  • File pleadings and motions in court.
  • Attend court proceedings including hearings, depositions, and mediations.
  • Communicate effectively with children, witnesses, and other stakeholders involved in the cases.
  • Advocate and negotiate for the assigned children both inside and outside the courtroom.
  • Review case files and maintain confidentiality regarding sensitive issues.

Requirements

  • Graduation from an accredited law school and membership in the Florida Bar.
  • Possession of legal skills and knowledge sufficient to represent children.
  • Ability to advocate effectively in court on behalf of children.
  • Knowledge of juvenile law, relevant rules of procedure, and evidence.
  • Ability to communicate effectively and deal tactfully with individuals in stressful situations.
  • Ability to work with individuals from diverse backgrounds.
  • Valid Florida Driver's License.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in dependency or related law (2+ years preferred).
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
