About the position

Chanel is seeking an energetic, purpose-driven Group Director to participate in the development and implementation of the US region's Social Sustainability strategy, a key pillar of the House ambition and roadmap on Sustainability. This role will report to the US Head of Sustainability and will be responsible for designing and overseeing the Social Sustainability roadmap across the US region's value chain. The Group Director will work closely with the corporate Social Sustainability team based in London and collaborate cross-functionally with teams such as Procurement, Legal, Human Resources, Learning & Development, and Operations. In this position, the Group Director will engage in strategic thinking by conducting research and analysis of existing and emerging social issues across operations and supply chains in the US. They will update social sustainability priorities for the region in alignment with the Company's House Ambition on Sustainability Roadmap. The role will also involve onboarding and raising awareness among US functions and business teams regarding social sustainability impacts and challenges, creating a community of practice through guidance documents, processes, and tools. The Group Director will be responsible for deploying Social Sustainability programs in collaboration with external experts to support strategic business partners in driving social transformation on issues such as fair wages, gender or racial equity, ethical recruitment, and just transition. They will coordinate with a network of Social Sustainability focal points across the company to enrich a joint community of practice through shared experiences, best practices, and technical training. Additionally, the Group Director will support the Head of Sustainability in tracking social performance and KPIs, regularly updating the company's external extra-financial reporting.

Responsibilities

  • Participate in the development and implementation of the US region's Social Sustainability strategy.
  • Design and oversee the Social Sustainability roadmap across the US region's value chain.
  • Conduct research and analysis of social issues across operations and supply chains in the US.
  • Update social sustainability priorities in line with the Company's House Ambition on Sustainability Roadmap.
  • Onboard and raise awareness among US functions and business teams on social sustainability impacts and challenges.
  • Create a community of practice through guidance documents, processes, and tools.
  • Deploy Social Sustainability programs in collaboration with external experts.
  • Support strategic business partners in driving social transformation on issues such as fair wages and gender equity.
  • Coordinate with Social Sustainability focal points across the company to share best practices and technical training.
  • Support the Head of Sustainability in tracking social performance and KPIs.

Requirements

  • Significant work experience in human rights or social sustainability within the private sector.
  • Good understanding of the US specific challenges and landscape regarding social sustainability.
  • Technical expertise on social sustainability topics such as fair wages, gender or racial equity, and ethical recruitment.
  • Proficient knowledge of impact program typologies, methodologies, and tools.
  • Track record of successful program management and delivery, coordinating multiple contributors and projects.
  • Demonstrable spoken and written communication skills, including editing and proofreading skills.
  • Minimum of 10 years of social sustainability experience.

Nice-to-haves

  • Proficiency in a second language, preferably French.
  • Previous experience working with or for a Civil Society Organisation or an NGO involved in social impact work.
