About The Position

Under the direction of the Associate Director, Custodial Services or designee, maintains the ongoing maintenance and upkeep of the grounds and pedestrian areas of County buildings. Mows and trims lawn areas; prepares areas for planning and ground cover installations; prunes and removes shrubbery and trees; sweeps buildings and parking lots/garages and cleans of infestations. Carries out refuse, shovels snow and performs other manual tasks related to maintenance of building and grounds. Removes snow and ice from roads, parking lots and pedestrian areas and performs minor maintenance and repair on equipment and tools as required.

Requirements

  • Possession of a High School Diploma or General Education Development (GED) Certificate is required.
  • One (1) year of work experience as a groundskeeper and/or cleaning the exterior of facilities is required.
  • Possession of a Valid driver's license is required.
  • This position is considered a safety-sensitive position. Candidates who are selected to fill safety-sensitive positions must pass a required drug test as part of the pre-employment background check process.
  • Candidates who are contacted will be required to produce original required documents (e.g., current driver’s license, diploma, school transcript, certifications, etc.) listed on the Notice of Job Opportunity within five (5) days of being extended an offer, in writing, by the Bureau Chief of BHR (or designee). Candidates will be notified of how to submit required documents.
  • Degrees awarded outside of the United States with the exception of those awarded in one of the United States territories and Canada, must be credentialed by the World Education Services (WES), Educational Credential Evaluators (ECE) or a National Association of Credential Evaluation (NACES) member organization.
  • Ability to drive a county vehicle.
  • Knowledge of equipment, tools and procedures for operation grounds maintenance and groundskeeping equipment.
  • Skill operation lawn mowers and tree trimmers.
  • May require working in extreme temperatures and lifting or moving heavy objects.
  • Ability to operate and conduct routine maintenance of both grounds care and power equipment.
  • Ability to exercise safety and care in cleaning to avoid injuries, breakage or destruction of property.
  • Ability in the care of assigned tools and other exterior maintenance supplies.
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without sponsorship.
