About the position

The Groomer at Badger Veterinary Hospital is responsible for providing high-quality grooming services to pets while ensuring their safety and well-being. This role requires a combination of grooming expertise and excellent customer service skills, as the Groomer will interact with clients to discuss their pets' grooming needs and health concerns. The position is fast-paced and requires a passion for animal care and grooming.

Responsibilities

• Perform grooming services including bathing, drying, ear cleaning, deep brushing, de-matting, breed standard cuts, teeth brushing, and nail trimming.
• Conduct pet intake and communicate with clients during drop-off and pick-up.
• Explain the grooming process clearly to clients and recommend services based on the needs of the pet.
• Provide clients with estimates of costs and time for grooming services.
• Coordinate appointment scheduling and communication with clients through the front desk.
• Maintain detailed notes of grooming work performed.
• Consult with clients post-grooming about future grooming and health needs.
• Keep a timely appointment schedule and determine appropriate bathing products and tools for grooming.
• Clip and comb pet hair according to breed standards and required styles.
• Ensure safe handling techniques to keep pets calm and under control during grooming.
• Monitor the health and well-being of pets during grooming and alert technicians of any medical issues.
• Maintain cleanliness of the grooming area, including cleaning cages, sweeping, and mopping.

Requirements

• Minimum of 2 to 3 years recent grooming experience.
• Ability to safely handle pets of all sizes and temperaments.
• Proficient in grooming dogs and other pets based on breed-specific needs or owner's requests.
• Ability to perform gland cleaning, ear cleanings, and nail trims.
• Must be able to frequently lift up to 50 pounds.
• Ability to work in an environment with exposure to disinfectant and sanitation chemicals, and animal dander.
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
• A love for animals and patience when handling pets.
