This is a union position and bonus eligible. The Grocery Manager directs and controls the operation of the Grocery Department, including supervising and training personnel to achieve departmental and store sales and profit objectives. The role provides feedback and recommendations on operational issues and personnel decisions to the Store Director and Division management. The Grocery Manager champions corporate and division customer service programs, instills a culture of excellent customer service, and is responsible for total store operations and directing associates in the absence of or as needed by the Store Director. The primary duty is management of the Grocery Department, including dairy and frozen food sections, ensuring compliance with product quality, rotation, cleanliness, sanitation, safety, and security standards. The role controls pricing, implements company and division operating and merchandising policies, controls merchandise shrink, and supervises inventory counts. The Grocery Manager orders products, maintains inventory levels, supervises processing of reclamation, and maintains orderly stock conditions. They supervise receiving, storing, stocking, pricing, and merchandising of grocery products, and may utilize hand trucks, pallet jacks, and the bailer. The role handles positive customer and vendor relations, engages in suggestive selling, and monitors daily logs, purchase reports, sales, and labor. The Grocery Manager prepares and displays appropriate product signage. Under the Store Director's supervision, they direct the work of all Grocery Department associates, schedule them, and participate in hiring. They monitor associate performance, recommend personnel actions, build associate morale, and resolve complaints. They immediately report potential policy violations to the Store Director and identify/train associates with high potential for advancement. The Grocery Manager understands the store and department Profit and Loss statement, plans promotions, and communicates sales goals to associates. They answer incoming telephone calls, resolve customer complaints, and maintain confidentiality of associates, sales, and company information. They are responsible for performing all job duties with honesty and integrity, and attend required training and sales meetings. They provide feedback and recommendations to management on operational issues.
