About the position

The Grants and Contracts Specialist II position at the University of Texas at Dallas is an intermediate-level role within the Office of Sponsored Projects, primarily responsible for all aspects of proposal preparation and submissions. This includes finding funding opportunities, interpreting sponsor guidelines, reviewing proposals and budgets for compliance, and acting as a liaison between the university and various sponsors. The role also involves training on secondary responsibilities such as reviewing awards, ensuring compliance, and facilitating project close-outs. The position requires strong analytical and communication skills, as well as the ability to manage complex tasks independently.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare and submit proposals for funding, ensuring compliance with sponsor guidelines.
  • Review routine and complex proposals and budgets for adherence to regulations and policies.
  • Act as a liaison between UTD and sponsors, faculty, and staff.
  • Resolve complex issues independently related to grant and contract administration.
  • Review awards for acceptance and ensure research compliance issues are addressed.
  • Facilitate sponsor changes to awards and monitor submission of reports and deliverables.
  • Draft, negotiate, and execute contracts as needed.
  • Stay current on issues in research administration and attend professional development training.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in business or related field.
  • Three years of experience in research grant and contract proposal preparation and administration.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and excellent word processing skills.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills for interpreting policies and negotiating with funding agencies.
  • Ability to manage and resolve complex tasks and issues independently.

Nice-to-haves

  • Certified Research Administrator or equivalent preferred.
  • Experience with sponsor submission portals and budget development.
  • Knowledge of 2CFR200 Uniform Guidance and external regulations.
