About the position

The Graduate Intern for Social and Intramural Programs is a 12-month 30 hour/week program coordinator position expected to start in July 2021. The Graduate Intern serves as member of the Center for Student Engagement team, supporting student leadership development and facilitating a variety of co-curricular learning opportunities in partnership with student clubs and organizations.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the primary adviser to the social and recreational clubs on campus.
  • Coordinate the Intramural Program schedule and marketing with the Assistant Director of the Center for Student Engagement.
  • Assist in the supervision of an undergraduate intern (work study students for intramurals) alongside the Assistant Director of the Center for Student Engagement.
  • Coordinate field space and availability with Athletics for weekly intramural events.
  • Support student engagement through recruitment and promotion of events hosted by the Center for Student Engagement.
  • Assist with the coordination and management of club and organization events, CSE evening and weekend events, and traditional college-wide events (i.e., Welcome Week, Student Club Fair, Christmas Tree Lighting, and Spring Week).
  • Assist with the coordination to support partnering centers and departments with events such as Regalos with the Center of Ministry & Service, ResLife, and the Center of Inclusive Excellence.
  • Coordinate the social media presence for the Center for Student Engagement with the Assistant Director of the Center for Student Engagement.
  • Assist in managing CSE's internal social programming calendar and display in office.
  • Support the outreach, public relations, and advertising efforts for the CSE.
  • Perform other related duties as required.
  • Train in incident management and crisis protocol with the Office of Residence Life and Housing.
  • Serve as a member of the Professional Staff On-Duty (PSOC) rotation.
  • Respond to on-campus issues or concerns as they arise, facilitate response with appropriate parties, and serve as support staff to resident assistants and Campus Police wherever needed.
  • Communicate with appropriate offices on campus regarding the welfare of residents.
  • Complete and distribute duty log by 9am for weekday duties.
  • Participate in regular Residence Life meetings, including Tuesday morning staff meetings and any training related to on-call policies or procedures.
  • Directly supervise RA staff of 4-6 students when on call; plus, participation in all staff training (paraprofessional and professional).
  • Directly supervise social and intramural clubs and assigned events.

Requirements

  • Internship applicants must be accepted, provisionally or fully, into an eligible graduate program.

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Proven experience in managing projects and people.
  • Proficiency in social media platforms.
  • Interest/Experience in higher education, leadership development and event management.
  • A positive attitude and an understanding of the importance of being open-minded and flexible.
  • Considerable evening and weekend hours required.
  • A valid driver's license is desirable.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in social media handles, Canva, adobe, photography, and/or have prior marketing experience.
