About The Position

Fleetwood Bawden Elementary School is seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic professional educator to join their team as a Grade 5 teacher for the 2026-27 school year. The successful candidate will be passionate about supporting student learning, be enthusiastic, flexible, and an energetic team player. This role involves demonstrating strong knowledge of literacy and numeracy instruction, implementing engaging, high-impact practices in an upper elementary classroom, and understanding the developmental needs of elementary learners. The teacher will design learning experiences that foster independence, critical thinking, and student voice, use outcome-based assessment to guide instruction and provide feedback, and create inclusive, responsive learning environments that support diverse learners. A commitment to fostering a classroom where friendship matters, mistakes are learning opportunities, and students encourage each other is essential. The role also requires building and sustaining strong, collaborative relationships with students and colleagues, and communicating openly and meaningfully with families as essential partners in student learning.

Requirements

  • Applicants must possess or be eligible to obtain an Alberta Teaching Certificate.
  • Sound understanding of teaching context and contributing variables.
  • Deep understanding of subject disciplines taught and pedagogical approaches based on best practice.
  • Understanding of planning, assessment and instructional practices.
  • Understanding of classroom management strategies that contribute to a positive learning environment.
  • The ability to use technology in meaningful ways for teaching and learning.
  • Qualities of a reflective practitioner who engages in professional learning aligned with the TQS.
  • Commitment to the school community with respect to professional relationships.
  • A belief in collaborative practice and teamwork.
  • Active contribution to school and student activity, and overall ability to develop effective relationships within the school and community.
  • A police information check; including Vulnerable Sector Check from Police Services or an RCMP detachment that does not have any charges or convictions.
  • A satisfactory Intervention Record Check from South Region Alberta Child and Family Services.
  • Proof of photo identification, may be a valid driver’s licence, provincial identification card as issued by a licensed government registry office, valid passport or Nexus card. If one cannot be provided, a new card must be obtained and proof of application provided within three days of hire.
  • Documentation of a valid Social Insurance Number in the employee’s legal name. If valid Social Insurance documentation in the current legal name can not be provided, the successful candidate will be required to obtain a new one within three days of hire.
