About The Position

Fleetwood Bawden Elementary School is seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic professional educator to join their team as a Grade 1 teacher for the 2026-27 school year. The successful candidate will be passionate about supporting student learning, enthusiastic, flexible, and an energetic team player. This is a temporary, full-time position (1.00 FTE) with an expected start date of August 25, 2026, and an anticipated end date of June 29, 2027, or upon the return of the incumbent. The school serves approximately 300 students from Kindergarten to Grade 5 and offers a Montessori program, prioritizing literacy, numeracy, and innovative practice within an inclusive and community-focused environment.

Requirements

  • Possess or be eligible to obtain an Alberta Teaching Certificate.
  • Sound understanding of teaching context and contributing variables.
  • Deep understanding of subject disciplines taught and pedagogical approaches based on best practice.
  • Understanding of planning, assessment and instructional practices.
  • Understanding of classroom management strategies that contribute to a positive learning environment.
  • Ability to use technology in meaningful ways for teaching and learning.
  • Qualities of a reflective practitioner who engages in professional learning aligned with the TQS.
  • Commitment to the school community with respect to professional relationships.
  • Belief in collaborative practice and teamwork.
  • Active contribution to school and student activity, and overall ability to develop effective relationships within the school and community.
  • A police information check, including Vulnerable Sector Check, from Police Services or an RCMP detachment that does not have any charges or convictions.
  • A satisfactory Intervention Record Check from South Region Alberta Child and Family Services.
  • Proof of photo identification (e.g., valid driver’s licence, provincial identification card, valid passport, or Nexus card).
  • Documentation of a valid Social Insurance Number in the employee’s legal name.

Responsibilities

  • Understand the unique needs of early learners and design engaging, developmentally appropriate experiences that foster curiosity, confidence, and a love of learning.
  • Use outcome-based assessment to guide instruction and respond intentionally to student needs.
  • Create inclusive, responsive learning environments that support a diverse range of learners and embrace student differences.
  • Foster a classroom where friendship matters, mistakes are viewed as opportunities for learning, and students encourage one another.
  • Build and sustain strong, collaborative relationships with students and colleagues in support of learning.
  • Communicate openly, consistently, and meaningfully with families, recognizing them as essential partners in student learning.
