About the position

The Government & Education (G&E) Advisor plays a crucial role in driving public sector membership growth and success by partnering with local market sales teams to develop and implement effective sales and retention strategies. This position requires building significant external relationships and understanding the unique dynamics of the public sector to enhance Cigna Healthcare's offerings to government and education clients.

Responsibilities

  • Activate public sector sales distribution strategy within aligned markets.
  • Build and maintain partnerships and relationships to grow and retain public sector business.
  • Contribute to pipeline/prospect development in conjunction with local market sales leadership.
  • Report on pipeline development and activities advancing the sales process.
  • Engage with segment underwriting, legal, and product leadership as needed.
  • Collaborate with RFP Proposal Response Team to ensure superior RFP product.
  • Participate in market strategic planning/business development meetings.
  • Serve as a liaison between local market leadership and G&E leadership.
  • Maintain a deep understanding of government dynamics and competitive landscape.
  • Build long-term pipeline for new medical and dental public sector accounts over 3,000 employees.
  • Articulate the value proposition of Cigna healthcare to public sector clients.
  • Act as point of contact for procurement matters with customers.
  • Engage with brokers/consultants in partnership with local market sales leadership.
  • Develop diverse supplier relationships where applicable.
  • Conduct pre-RFP work influencing Cigna's position with government and education prospects.
  • Manage Freedom of Information requests and maintain coordinated pre-RFP strategy.

Requirements

  • Minimum 6 years of sales experience, account management, or business development in healthcare or insurance industry.
  • Product knowledge, underwriting, risk and financial analysis skills, and marketing processes experience.
  • Understanding of local government procurement and elected official relationship dynamics preferred.
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent related work experience required.
  • Health and life insurance license required.
  • Experience selling to local governments and school districts preferred.
  • Proven ability to influence and establish strong relationships.
  • Strong customer focus and collaboration skills.
