The role of a General Merchandise Expert can provide you with the knowledge of guest service fundamentals and experience supporting a guest first culture across the store, experience in retail business fundamentals including: department sales trends, inventory management, and process efficiency and improvement, and experience executing daily/weekly workload to support business priorities and deliver on sales goals.

Responsibilities

  • Create a welcoming experience by authentically greeting all guests
  • Observe to quickly understand whether a guest needs assistance or wants to interact
  • Engage with guests in a genuine way, which includes asking questions to better understand their specific needs
  • Be knowledgeable about the tools, products, and services available in the total store, and specific to your area, to solve issues for the guest and improve their experience
  • Thank the guest in a genuine way and let them know we're happy they chose to shop at Target
  • Be knowledgeable of GM areas to ensure sales floor is zoned, in stock and accurately signed and priced for guests
  • Acknowledge guests as you complete workload with minimal guest disruption
  • Partner with leadership to prioritize daily workload based on business and guest needs
  • Ensure regular and promotional signing is set accurately for GM categories
  • Execute inbound, replenishment, backroom and signing processes for GM areas
  • Execute processes including pricing, presentation sets, and inventory accuracy as directed by your leader for all areas
  • Understand how operational procedures impact shortage, profitability, in store replenishment and inventory accuracy
  • Operate power equipment only if certified
  • Follow processes accurately with attention to detail, monitor own progress
  • Demonstrate a culture of ethical conduct, safety and compliance
  • Work in a safe manner at all times to benefit yourself and others
  • Support guest services such as back-up cashier, and digital fulfillment processes

Requirements

  • Welcoming and helpful attitude toward guests and other team members
  • Ability to communicate on multiple frequency devices and operate handheld scanners
  • Work both independently and with a team
  • Resolve guest questions quickly on the spot
  • Attention to detail and follow a multi-step processes
  • Capability to remain focused and composed in a fast-paced environment

  • Accurately handle cash register operations as needed
  • Climb up and down ladders
  • Scan, handle and move merchandise efficiently and safely, including frequently lifting or moving merchandise up to 44 pounds
  • Flexible work schedule (e.g., nights, weekends and holidays) reliable and prompt attendance necessary
  • Capable of working in and exposure to varying temperatures, humidity, and other elements while performing certain job duties
  • Ability to remain mobile for the duration of a scheduled shift
