About The Position

We are seeking an experienced and knowledgeable Global Trade Specialist to join our Global Trade Management team, specializing in the import and export of medical devices across America. This role is key to ensuring compliant, efficient, and seamless customs processes in alignment with international trade regulations. The ideal candidate will possess deep expertise in import/export requirements, commodity classification, origin, valuation, export controls, and Supply Chain Security (C-TPAT), along with a strong understanding of trade risk mitigation and internal compliance frameworks. Success in this position requires the ability to navigate complex regulatory and supply chain environments and to effectively collaborate across functions, including Regulatory Affairs, Supply Chain, Legal, and Procurement, while clearly communicating Global Trade requirements throughout the organization.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in International Business, Supply Chain Management or related field
  • 5–8+ years of experience in trade compliance and import/export operations, preferably in medical devices.
  • Fluency in English; proficiency in Spanish is a plus.
  • Expertise in HTSUS, 19CFR, Canada Customs Act, Export Administration Regulations, customs clearance requirements for medical devices (e.g., classification, FDA AofC, origin), FTA use, AEO and Incoterms® 2020.
  • Digital & analytics tools: Experience using collaboration, documentation, and analytics platforms (e.g., Confluence, Tableau) to support trade data analysis, reporting, and data-driven decisions.
  • Experience working with: ERP, GTM, national customs systems (e.g., ACE, CARM)
  • Advanced knowledge of tariff classification (HS codes) , Country of Origin and export controls
  • Skilled in trade compliance, risk mitigation , audit preparedness, and root-cause investigations
  • Strategic mindset: able to develop and enforce trade policies and support trade facilitation into new markets
  • Problem-solving, resourcefulness and organizational skills
  • Skilled in cross-functional collaboration and ability to communicate clearly and effectively in writing and verbally (especially with RA/QA, Supply Chain, and Legal)
  • Strong attention to regulatory detail and risk management mindset; agility to navigate shifting regulatory frameworks (e.g., Tariffs, FTAs)
  • Ability to work independently and with a sense of urgency, effective time management and prioritization, exercise good judgement in operation and escalation
  • Must be flexible in their thinking, prepared to perform under pressure and with shifting priorities.

Responsibilities

  • Lead, manage and act as the subject matter expert on trade compliance, ensuring adherence to customs regulations, tariff classifications, origin rules, valuation, international manufacturing and duty exclusion programs.
  • Prepare and maintain GTM and Supply Chain Security internal controls, procedures, guidelines and audit materials.
  • Serve as first-line intake for trade compliance and enablement requests, validating completeness, scope, and viability, and preparing clear dossiers for leadership review
  • Research and analyze regional trade regulations to determine their relevance and impact on the organization, supporting proactive compliance and strategic alignment.
  • Monitor and interpret regulatory and customs changes across regions and global trading partners.
  • Maintain trade compliance documentation and databases including customs clearance records, Certificates of Origin, Licenses, technical files and Harmonized Tariff Codes.
  • Develop and implement GTM projects and continuous improvement initiatives
  • Support audits and investigations; prepare compliance and performance reports and risk assessments.
  • Assist leader on tasks, special projects and act as GTM delegate, as needed
