About the position

The Geographic Information Spatial Analyst I position at Fairfax County Government is designed to deliver innovative geospatial solutions that support county operations and serve the public. This role involves fulfilling GIS project requests, implementing web-based GIS solutions, performing spatial analysis, and providing technical support and training to county staff. The position plays a crucial role in enhancing the county's geographic information services and contributes to emergency response efforts when necessary.

Responsibilities

  • Fulfill GIS project requests by designing maps, developing reports, and creating spatial layers.
  • Implement web-based GIS solutions using platforms such as ArcGIS Online and ArcGIS Enterprise.
  • Perform basic spatial analysis and collaborate with senior GIS Analysts on various projects.
  • Assist other GIS teams by testing and evaluating software applications.
  • Provide GIS technical support and training for county staff.
  • Respond to public inquiries regarding GIS products and services.
  • Support the county Emergency Operations Center (EOC) when activated.
  • Maintain inventory of GIS consumables and support additional office functions as needed.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, geography, or a related field with coursework in ArcView GIS or similar GIS software.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work well in a team environment and independently with little supervision.
  • Excellent organizational skills.
  • Experience with web-based mapping applications such as ArcGIS Online.
  • In-depth knowledge of ArcGIS Desktop 10.x and ArcGIS Pro 3.x.
  • Experience delivering GIS technical support.
  • Skilled at working with the public in a customer service environment.
  • Comfortable teaching GIS concepts and tools.
  • Experience with municipal GIS and familiarity with local government lines of business related to land development.

  • Bilingual in Spanish and English.
  • Excellent cartographic skills.
