About the position

The General Trades Team Supervisor is responsible for overseeing the maintenance personnel within the district's maintenance department. This role involves planning, assigning, inspecting, and coordinating maintenance work to ensure effective facility operations. The supervisor will implement maintenance programs, manage budgets, and ensure compliance with relevant regulations while fostering a collaborative environment with other departments and the community.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise, plan, assign, inspect, instruct, and coordinate the work of assigned maintenance personnel.
  • Implement an effective maintenance program for all assigned facilities and equipment.
  • Develop and utilize a maintenance program for district equipment and facilities.
  • Plan, schedule, supervise, and inspect the work of the maintenance team.
  • Maintain and manage a balanced budget for the assigned area and submit reports as required.
  • Inspect sites to determine materials, labor needs, and cost estimates for work to be performed.
  • Oversee the requisition, purchase, and distribution of required materials and assist with specifications development.
  • Coordinate maintenance activities with principals, other departments, and the community.
  • Review maintenance problems, equipment breakdowns, complaints, and accident reports to make effective recommendations.
  • Maintain construction codes in compliance with regulations.
  • Interview, select, assign, orient, train, motivate, discipline, and evaluate personnel.
  • Manage work orders and requests for equipment, supplies, and materials through the established software system.
  • Audit, inspect, and review work completed and work orders of assigned personnel.
  • Monitor in-house equipment and assist other departments with manufacturer warranties.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of federal, state, and local regulations, including OSHA and NFPA standards.
  • Provide supervision and work assistance as a working supervisor during emergencies.
  • Evaluate bid specifications for maintenance projects.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree and three (3) years supervisory experience in maintenance/facilities/construction OR High School Diploma/GED and five (5) years experience in maintenance/facilities/construction, including three (3) years supervisory experience.
  • Experience and working knowledge of current computer software and hardware related to the position.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints and plans.
  • Effective oral and written communication skills, including public speaking.
  • Computer literate with knowledge of Microsoft Office programs.
  • Valid Texas/New Mexico driver's license, insurable by the district's liability insurance.
