About the position

The General Engineer position serves as the Deputy Chief in the Branch of Building Operations within the Office of Facilities and Administrative Services at the U.S. Department of the Interior. This role involves providing facilities management, technical, and support services to various offices and entities within the department, ensuring the effective operation and maintenance of the Stewart Lee Udall Building in Washington, DC.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the primary subject matter expert on engineering standards and practices related to facilities management.
  • Demonstrate technical knowledge and resourcefulness in applying management practices to solve significant engineering problems.
  • Act as the Contracting Officer's Representative (COR) for facility-related projects, preparing statements of work and cost estimates.

Requirements

  • U.S. Citizenship is required.
  • A bachelor's degree in engineering from an ABET-accredited program or equivalent education and experience.
  • One year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-12 level, including extensive experience in operating capital equipment systems for large facilities.

Nice-to-haves

  • Professional registration as an Engineer Intern (EI), Engineer in Training (EIT), or Professional Engineer (PE).
  • Experience with federal facility codes, standards, and regulations.
