About The Position

Harbour Construction is seeking a General Accountant to join their accounting team. This role offers an accounting professional the chance to engage in a variety of accounting responsibilities within an established and growing organization. Reporting to the Controller, the General Accountant is crucial for supporting the company's daily accounting operations. While Accounts Payable is a significant part of the role (60%), it is not the sole focus. The successful candidate will also be involved in reconciliations, compliance reporting, fixed asset accounting, payroll support, and month-end activities. Requirements

  • Diploma or degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field.
  • Minimum two years of accounting experience.
  • Experience with accounts payable and account reconciliations.
  • Strong understanding of accounting principles and financial controls.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and accounting software.
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in construction, civil construction, or project-based industries.
  • Experience with ERP or accounting software.
  • Payroll experience.
  • Experience preparing HST filings and government remittances.
  • Progress toward a CPA designation or other accounting credential.

Responsibilities

  • Process supplier invoices and payment runs.
  • Reconcile supplier statements and resolve discrepancies.
  • Complete bank reconciliations and credit card reconciliations.
  • Maintain accurate accounting records and supporting documentation.
  • Support month-end and year-end accounting activities.
  • Maintain fixed asset records and depreciation schedules.
  • Prepare journal entries and supporting schedules.
  • Assist with account reconciliations and balance sheet reviews.
  • Support financial reporting activities and general ledger accuracy.
  • Prepare and submit HST filings.
  • Prepare payroll source deduction remittances.
  • Support payroll processing and payroll-related reporting.
  • Assist with audit requests and regulatory reporting requirements.
  • Support the ongoing optimization of ERP and other financial systems.
  • Identify opportunities to improve accounting processes and efficiencies.
  • Contribute to the development of strong internal controls and accounting practices.
