About the position

The Gas Construction Worker position is part of a four-level series responsible for the installation, repair, and maintenance of the natural gas distribution system. The role includes operating tools to excavate gas lines, performing labor related to gas distribution systems, inspecting and repairing existing infrastructure, and maintaining records of activities. The position is open for various levels, from entry-level to senior roles, with responsibilities increasing with each level.

Responsibilities

  • Participate in the installation, repair, and maintenance of the natural gas distribution system.
  • Operate power and hand tools to excavate gas lines and other underground utilities.
  • Inspect and repair existing gas infrastructure.
  • Record activities and file paperwork.
  • Install, locate, inspect, maintain, and repair pipelines, fittings, and valves.
  • Plumbing and pipefitting gas lines.
  • Order supplies and equipment.
  • Clean and exercise valves.
  • Maintain records and logs of systems operation and maintenance activities.
  • Respond to customer complaints and inquiries.
  • Perform complex repairs and upgrades to equipment and facilities.
  • Train and monitor the performance of lower-level staff.

Requirements

  • High school graduate or GED equivalent.
  • Possession of a valid Class D Driver's license.
  • Must obtain a Class 'A' Commercial Driver's License typically within the first 6 months of employment.
  • Natural Gas Operator Qualifications as required for the position.
  • One year of experience in natural gas distribution system maintenance and construction for Gas Construction Worker II.
  • Two years of experience in natural gas distribution system maintenance and construction for Gas Senior Construction Worker.
