About the position

The Gage Lab Tech position at Precision Castparts Corp. involves the calibration and maintenance of gages and fixtures used in quality inspection processes. The role is critical in ensuring that all gages are accurately calibrated and maintained, supporting the production floor's needs while adhering to safety and quality standards. The technician will also be responsible for training new staff and coordinating with engineering teams on gage projects.

Responsibilities

  • Gage calibration with periodic layouts; perform maintenance and minor repairs as needed.
  • Coordinate all other repairs of gages and fixtures with tool shops.
  • Update and maintain electronic system for all calibrated gages, fixtures, and tools.
  • Manage daily release of gages to production floor.
  • Perform new gage layouts, correlations, GR&R studies, and releases.
  • Control documents and records of all gage activities (i.e., layout, repairs, correlations, etc.).
  • Communicate professionally with all customers, vendors, co-workers, and supervisors.
  • Coordinate with local outside vendors for calibration of gages and tools.
  • Assist with production constraints when necessary.
  • Train new Gage Control Techs as needed.
  • Maintain a clean and safe working environment compliant with PCC safety rules.
  • Coordinate with process and product engineering on gage projects.
  • Assist other PCC facilities with gage related issues and transfers.
  • Perform other assignments as directed by supervisor.

Requirements

  • High School graduate or GED required.
  • Good math understanding and background.
  • Familiarity with standard quality inspection instruments and gages.
  • Ability to read and understand blueprints.
  • 5 or more years of experience in plate layouts highly preferred.
  • Experience with CMM and Bluelight also preferred.
  • Understanding of layout techniques, operations, and instruments.
  • Knowledge of calibration software (GAGEtrak is preferred).
  • Ability to work independently.
  • Mechanically inclined.
  • Ability to work overtime as needed to support manufacturing needs.
  • Ability to lift 35 lbs. at a maximum and the ability to push or pull objects weighing up to 90 lbs.
