About the position

The Lead Teacher at Haywood Community College is responsible for planning and implementing daily activities for children in the Regional Center for the Advancement of Children. This role emphasizes adherence to Child Care Standards to ensure the health, safety, and well-being of all children in care. The position is situated in a 5-star child care facility and involves working with a regular Pre-K class, promoting a safe and engaging learning environment.

Responsibilities

  • Establish and maintain a safe and healthy learning environment.
  • Design appropriate room arrangements to support classroom goals.
  • Plan and implement nutritious meals and promote healthy eating habits.
  • Maintain a safe and orderly learning environment.
  • Provide a balance between child-initiated and teacher-initiated activities.
  • Involve children in planning and implementing learning activities.
  • Provide experiences that promote language, literacy, and number development.
  • Implement hands-on activities that develop positive self-worth and social skills.
  • Promote open communication with parents through various means.
  • Assess program supplies and materials needed prior to implementing activities.
  • Supervise assistants, aides, and volunteers in the classroom.
  • Maintain written plans on a weekly/monthly basis.
  • Assess children's needs and developmental progress on an ongoing basis.
  • Engage in ongoing staff development to improve personal and professional skills.

Requirements

  • Must be 18 years of age and willing to enroll in college-level EDU coursework within 6 months of hire.
  • Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Ability to relate to diverse age and demographic backgrounds.
  • Physical ability to frequently walk, bend, stoop, and lift up to 50 pounds.
  • Sound knowledge of procedures and regulations specific to the care and education of infants and children.
  • Willingness to learn necessary skills and knowledge and strive for continuous improvement.
  • Demonstrate diplomacy, tact, and professional demeanor.
  • High school diploma or equivalent, with one year of child care experience or two years as a licensed family child care home operator.

Nice-to-haves

  • Associates Degree in Early Childhood, Birth-Kindergarten, or related field.
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in child care.
