About the position

The Fugitive Apprehension Agent position is responsible for investigating violations of policy by staff, particularly in relation to staff and inmates. This role involves assisting various law enforcement agencies with criminal investigations on Department of Correction's property or involving department employees, inmates, or community supervised offenders. Agents will conduct investigations into serious crimes within correctional facilities, including murder, rape, and drug offenses, and will also handle accident investigations. The position requires securing crime scenes, maintaining evidence, preparing reports, and testifying in court. Additionally, agents may be involved in executive protection assignments and providing security for dignitaries.

Responsibilities

  • Assist federal, state, county, and city law enforcement agencies with criminal investigations.
  • Conduct criminal investigations of crimes occurring within a correctional facility.
  • Investigate accidents resulting in death or serious injury.
  • Secure crime scenes to ensure preservation of evidence.
  • Mark and tag evidence to maintain chain of custody.
  • Prepare appropriate investigative reports and testify in court.
  • Conduct preliminary investigations into individuals or groups involved in threat matters.
  • Respond to requests for information and assistance from outside law enforcement agencies.
  • Plan and implement executive protection assignments.
  • Provide security for visiting dignitaries.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree with at least 24 hours in relevant fields such as penology, psychology, or criminal justice.
  • Level I: 1 year of law enforcement experience or 5 years as a correctional officer.
  • Level II: 3 years of law enforcement experience or 10 years as a correctional officer.
  • Level III: 5 years of law enforcement experience or 15 years as a correctional officer.
  • Valid Oklahoma driver's license.
  • Ability to pass a rigid character and background investigation.
  • Willingness to be on call 24/7 and travel frequently.

Nice-to-haves

  • Investigative, interview, and/or interrogation training from a Law Enforcement, Military, or Educational background.
