About the position

Boston Health Care for the Homeless Program (BHCHP) is seeking a dedicated nursing professional to provide leadership and direct nursing care for patients at the Stacy Kirkpatrick House. This full-time position requires working night shifts from 6 pm to 6:30 am or 10 pm to 6:30 am, including every other weekend and holiday. The role is crucial for ensuring that clinically appropriate and timely decisions are made regarding patient assessments, medication administration, treatments, and overall patient care. The position also offers a $4,000 sign-on bonus and a starting compensation of $35.22, which increases based on years of experience.

Responsibilities

  • Direct nursing care of patients on assigned team to ensure that all needs of the patients are met, in conformance with established policies and procedures.
  • Responsible for accurate assessments and documentation, reporting to appropriate personnel as indicated.
  • Administer medications and treatments to all patients assigned to the team skillfully and correctly, documenting per policy.
  • Update and maintain accurate treatment records, flow sheets, and vaccine administration, documenting appropriately.
  • Participate actively in team meetings and give/receive reports at change of shift.
  • Check narcotics and related drug supplies per policy; sign appropriate forms.
  • Assign specific individual tasks to, and direct Respite Aides, maintaining confidentiality and standards of accurate recording and reporting.
  • Educate patients according to their needs, using nursing knowledge and skills in areas such as Diabetes, TB, HIV, and medications.
  • Prepare patients for admission, transfers, visits to treatment or diagnostic services, or discharge, ensuring documentation is completed.

Requirements

  • Registered Nurse (RN) license required.
  • Experience in direct patient care, particularly in a healthcare setting serving vulnerable populations.
  • Strong assessment and documentation skills.
  • Ability to administer medications and treatments accurately and safely.

Nice-to-haves

  • Bilingual proficiency in English and another language, particularly Spanish, is preferred.
  • Experience working with homeless populations or in community health settings.
