About the position

The Tutor position at Akron Public Schools is designed to assist identified students in meeting or exceeding academic standards and developing essential 21st-century skills. The role involves planning and delivering tailored learning experiences, implementing differentiated instructional strategies, and fostering positive relationships with students to maximize their success.

Responsibilities

  • Assist identified students to meet or exceed 21st century knowledge and skills, including state academic achievement standards.
  • Articulate what students should know and be able to do, while working to help students achieve.
  • Guide the learning process toward the achievement of curriculum goals and establish clear objectives for all lessons, units, and projects.
  • Plan and deliver learning experiences that advance the learning of each individual student.
  • Design authentic learning experiences for students to learn core knowledge and skills through collaboration and inquiry.
  • Organize and plan for learning based upon knowledge of subject matter, students, the community, and curriculum goals.
  • Assist in the planning for intervention and remediation in math and literacy for identified students.
  • Develop and implement differentiated instructional strategies for each student's academic growth.
  • Proficiently use technology as an instructional and management tool.
  • Use continuous, authentic, and appropriate assessment measures to improve instruction and student learning.
  • Provide learning opportunities that support the intellectual, social, emotional, and physical development of students.
  • Model the teaching expectations that students are to accomplish.
  • Contribute to and participate in ongoing professional development.
  • Maintain and improve professional competence.
  • Work collaboratively to improve instruction and learning with colleagues.
  • Use a variety of communication methods and technologies to interact with students, parents, and staff.
  • Maximize opportunities for student success by creating positive working relationships with students.
  • Maintain accurate, complete, and correct records as required by law and district policy.
  • Develop reasonable rules of classroom behavior and maintain order in the classroom.

Requirements

  • Must have a Valid Ohio P-3, 1-8, K-8, 4-9 (ELA or Math), or 7-12 (ELA or Math) license.
